Short History of the School

St John the Evangelist English Primary School was established in January 1889.After 25 years, i.e., in 1914 the number on the rolls rose to 104, with three teachers. At the time of the Golden Jubilee in 1939, the number had risen to 58 boys and 57 girls.

As the number of students gradually increased, the School Management Committee (consisting of 7 parishioners) secured accommodation from 1913 onwards in two rented separate houses in the village. The committee continued their efforts to find another suitable site, with a playground. They finally purchased the area of the site was 20 gunthas (2020 sq. Meters).

The foundation stone of the new building the original E-W ground floor structure was blessed and laid on 5 March 1916 by His Grace Dr. Sebastian Jose Pereira, Archbishop of Daman. Simultaneously, the school, which was till then called 'Marol English School' was christened as 'St John the Evangelist School' and placed under his patronage.

It may be added that as St Johns was a recognised school in this region then, the children of the neighbouring villages of Condita, Chakala, Sahar and Bamanpuri attended this school for their primary education. With the increase in population in and around Marol, there was an urgent need of a larger school, teaching up to the Matriculation class. The extension was completed in October 1964. Thereafter, the school celebrated its Diamond Jubilee. Bishop Longinus Pereira and Bishop Willie Gomes graced the celebrations with their presence. In the year 2014, We celebrated 125 Glorious years since its inception. His Lordship, Bishop Percival Fernandez celebrated the Holy Eucharist.

I. Introductory Note

St. John The Evangelist High School, Marol, is a High School of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bombay. It was started as a primary school in 1889 and upgraded into a High School in 1970. The school aims at education, character formation, service, and all-round development in the light of God and country.

The school is a co-educational English Teaching High School recognized by the Government of Maharashtra and prepares pupils for the Secondary School Certificate Examination. It also has a Primary Section.

II. Leave

If a student is absent due to illness, a note written on the special page provided for the purpose must be submitted on return and signed by the parent or guardian. In case of prolonged illness lasting more than one week, the Headmistress should be informed and a medical certificate attached.

During school hours no student may leave the classroom without the teacher's permission, and written permission of the Principal or Vice-Principal is required to leave the premises during school hours.

III. Withdrawal

  • A calendar month's notice is required before withdrawing a pupil, or a fee must be paid.
  • Notice must be given in writing by the parent or guardian, not by the pupil.
  • Those leaving in April must pay fees for May.
  • Pupils leaving without notice or with unexplained absence of more than one month may not be readmitted.
  • School dues must be cleared and the Leaving Certificate cannot be issued until fees are paid.

IV. Examination and Promotions

  • Progress reports are issued after every examination and unit test.
  • Parents should sign the remarks and return them within three days.
  • Reports may be withheld if fees are pending.
  • The Principal's decision regarding promotion, annual examination, fees, assessment of marks, and prizes is final.
  • Any breach of assessment rules may lead to repetition of a year or dismissal.
  • If a pupil is caught copying, a zero is awarded for that subject and further action may follow.

V. Uniforms

  • All students must wear the school uniform as prescribed.
  • Boys should wear neatly combed hair and proper footwear.
  • Girls should wear the prescribed dress with neat hair arrangements and ribbons.
  • Children should carry only a home-made healthy food for recess.
  • No junk food is allowed.

VI. Books for Home Reading

  • Only one book may be issued at a time and must be returned on the due date.
  • Library books are issued for seven days.
  • If a book is not returned for a long period, a further charge may apply.
  • Any borrowed item must be carefully handled and checked before examinations.

VII. Principles of Discipline

  • Students must behave respectfully toward teachers, staff, and classmates.
  • Any form of bullying, rude speech, or disrespectful conduct is not allowed.
  • Misuse of social media, media sharing, or posting harmful content is prohibited.
  • Use of electronic gadgets during school time is restricted.
  • Any attempt to copy, cheat, or plagiarize is treated seriously.
  • Repeated misconduct may lead to disciplinary action, suspension, or cancellation of admission.

VIII. General Rules

  • Attendance on the first day after vacation is compulsory.
  • Parents and guardians should ensure students come regularly and on time.
  • P.T. uniform must be worn on the specified day.
  • Hair should be neat and students should arrive in proper school dress and shoes.
  • No unnecessary valuables or undesirable influence are permitted on the school campus.
  • Report cards must be signed by the parent.

IX. Health

In case of accidents or emergencies, casualties will be taken to the nearest hospital and the parent will be informed as soon as possible. The School takes all possible care, but responsibility in case of accidents remains with the parents and students.

X. Prizes

  • General Proficiency prizes are awarded to students with the highest total marks.
  • Scholarship prizes may be awarded based on curricular activities and school policy.

XI. School Activities

  • The school encourages participation in social, cultural, visual, literary, music, sports, and educational activities.
  • Students are expected to take part in class and school activities, assemblies, celebrations, debates, and special programs.
  • Good order, silence, and respect for school discipline are expected at all times.

XII. School Fees

  • Fees are to be paid strictly in advance, monthly or quarterly as prescribed.
  • Fees paid after the due date may attract a late fee.
  • The fee structure includes admission fee, term fee, and related school charges.
  • Fees for April and May must be paid together when required by the school calendar.
